A district rich in Maori history (one of the first Maori canoes landed here). Also close to Ohope Beach where the Godwits migrate and the dodder ells nest in the sand dunes, undisturbed by swimmers and surfies. Golf clubs at Whakatane and Ohope are nearby.
We recommend a visit to White Island, an active volcano 30 miles off shore, accessible by boat or helicopter, or you can go swimming with the dolphins or relax in the Awakeri Hot Springs.
Jim has been a member of Whakatane Lions Club for 39 years and is also a keen bowler. Kathleen's interest are in crafts, genealogy and organic gardening. Travel is a particular interest. One of our sons lives in England and we have an A.F.S. son who lives in Ohio, USA.
